Spin Test Services
At BSi, we not only design test rigs but also offer spin testing services from our three fully automated spin test facilities, featuring drives that achieve speeds up to 200,000 rpm and capacities up to 1000 kg.
Our fully equipped, in-house spin testing facilities are AS9100 certified and feature the most advanced control system for spin testing: full authority spin testing (F.A.S.T.) Using a TC-4 drive controller with unparalleled speed control, we perform automated cyclic spin tests 24 hours a day. All critical test parameters are monitored with automatic response to any occurrence.
Drive Systems
BSi’s drive systems offer precise speed control at ultra-high rotational speeds. BSi provides both Air Turbine and Electric Motor Drive Systems.
The air turbine is generally recommended if the speeds are very high and the power requirement is modest. The cost of air, then, is not such an important factor.
For high power, high utilization applications, Low Cycle Fatigue testing in particular, the Electric Motor drive is preferred as it is most economical. Overall efficiency is higher than that of the air turbine option due to fewer energy conversions. Even more advantageous is the fact that energy can be returned to the mains when braking. The only energy consumption is then the parasitic losses.
Spin Test Facilities
Manufacturers of high speed machinery rely on BSi test equipment to insure the reliability of these products and, in many cases, human safety; e.g., aircraft engines. BSi tailors our spin test facilities to meet the specific needs of our customers. Our engineers have many, many years of experience in modifying existing designs to economically meet the requirements for speed, temperature and other parameters to meet or exceed the real world conditions the equipment or components must operate in.
Other Test Rigs
In addition to spin test facilities, BSi has supplied test rigs for testing high speed machinery or components used therein. Components tested have included ball bearings, shaft seals, slip rings, and telemetry units. BSi has also designed and built a rig for testing abrasion resistant coatings.
